THIS OR THAT
Burlesque by the Beach
Coney
Island Side Show
10 pm, $15

Like
strip poker without the cards, This or
That! brings adult entertainment to television
in a way everyone will love! Polyester-clad
host Fred Kahl calls out Now Thats
Entertainment to encourage and congratulate
contestants for taking off their clothes,
getting into a giant balloon or naming
that smell. Bootylicious co-host Julie
Atlas Muz calls the shots as contestants
vie for cash, prizes, or the chance to
be spanked. The fun and humiliation climax
when the "winning" contestant
chooses one of two curtains: "This"
or "That", out of which emerges
either a classic burlesque hottie or an
act that stinks so bad its brilliant.
A
variety of hot and hilarious acts fill
the bill: this month features Trixie Little
& the Evil Hate Monkey and Dr. Lucky,
and, as always, Bambi the Mermaid and
Bunny Love. Contestants act out their
fantasies without actually having to run
away from home to join the burlesque show.
Home viewers and the live studio audience
cheer on contestants as they meet the
show's challenges answering trivia questions,
stuffing marshmallows in their mouth,
and guessing the weight of Wonderful Woman's
rack. Now That's Entertainment!

PHANTASMAGORIA: A Land Where all
the Monsters are Beauties and all the
Beauties are Monsters
Burlesque
by the Beach
Coney
Island Side Show
10 pm, $10
www.coneyislandusa.com
|

"Ideal
beauty attracts, whereas monster/beauty
likely attracts and repulses simultaneously."
-- Joanna Frueh
Once
upon a time a young girl stumbled upon
a fascinating theory: the monster/beauty
continuum. She gets swept away by the
concept and literally lands in a fantasy
land called Phantasmagoria. Phantasmagoria
is a land where all of the beauties are
monsters and all of the monsters are beauties.
She meets Dr. Lucky, the Patron Saint
of Glamour, and all of the creatures of
Phantasmagoria who each teach the young
girl a thing or two about the beauty in
monsters and the monstrosity of beauty.
Through their lessons, our young girl
emerges a woman who realizes that this
fantasy land can in fact be a reality.
Come
join a star-studded cast as our performers
bring to life Dr. Lucky's essay entitled,
"'It is the Ugly that is so Beautiful':
Performing the Monster/Beauty Continuum
in Neo Burlesque." Starring some
of the most compelling monsters/beauties
in the new burlesque scene including Bambi
the Mermaid, Bunny Love, Darlinda Just
Darlinda, Devilicia, Dr. Lucky and Little
Brooklyn. New acts, production numbers,
sets, scripts
this will be a once-in-a-lifetime
event!

Persona and Charater
Development Workshop
The
Palace of Wonders
1-6, $95
Washington, DC
www.thepalaceofwonders.com
|
|
What
do drag queens and clowns (good ones at
least) have in common? They are able to
"pull off" their characters
by creating and sustaining believable
(or unbelievable) stage personae. The
stage persona can be anything from an
extension of self to a fantastic flaming
creature and finding your inner "queen"
is an effective way to connect with the
audience and tell a story. Through theatre
and improvisation exercises, writing prompts,
and movement activities, this workshop
will provide a framework, techniques,
and the creative space to begin the process
of birthing and developing a flamboyant
stage persona. Some burlesque or performing
experience suggested but not required.

a fabulous lineup so don't miss out! Party
favors and festivies to be had by ALL!

I suppose, but this is not the Box, people,

and tunnel crowd most definately will
have been out since happy hour. So, I'm
going to bring some sick, messy shit to
throw (literally & figuratively) at
the kids. Buyer beware. OH! There's also
a whole other show happening starting
at 10:30 pm but I have no idea who is
performing since the website hasn't been
updated in 6 years.

be warned: mockery ahead! After a month
performing in jolly ol' England, Trixie

With friends from across the pond...or
at least with a fake British accent: The

nearly Oxford-educated brains of Dr. Lukki,
a swinging 60's London soundtrack by Momo
Taro and more Benny Hill references than
you could fill a pint glass with! Don't

crazy kids and the super festive Baltimore,
the little city that could (and does!)
Nuts will be roasted and yule logs will
be laid...and you'll be REALLY glad the
family isn't around when you spend this
racy pre-Christmas, post-Hannukah night
of debauchery with Baltimore's beloved
acrobatic burlesque superduo! Monkey plays
Santa, Trixie trims the trees and bushes
and the wry Austrian uber-hostess, Miss
Astrid, will give out the coal, while
Dr. Lukki drinks all the eggnog in the
house!

VICTORIA!
The Stonewall Inn
53 Christopher Street
10-4, shows at 12 & 1:30
$10/$5 w/ RSVP (ftfvictoria@gmail.com)
|
|
Okay,
kids, get your pens and paper out and
take some notes -- there's going to be
a quiz at the end of the night! "FTF"
is a term used by some transpeople to
identify that though they may have been
born bioligically male, they have always
considered themselves female. I'm sure
that's review for all of you and I don't
even need to Mother Camp it by explaining
what a "female impersonator"
is. And just to throw some further gender
bending into this wonderful queer world,
now some people with vaginas (born with
vaginas -- an important distinction here!)
have started a party dedicated to "FTFs,
Faux Queens, and the Gay Men Trapped inside
our Vaginas." In a binary gendered
world we would simply look at this phenomenon
and say, well, they're just women [intentional
switch from sex to gender] now aren't
they? Not quite, my friends -- "post
post" does not go back to the original
thing. Whether you are confused or you
TOTALLY GET THIS, come to this party where
Dr. Lukki will spin some edumucated queer
and trans theory on your asses! I'm hosting
and I'M PROUD! By the way, I'm currently
writing an essay about this that can be
found on my myspace blog (www.myspace.com/drlucky
-- it's part of the "Monster/Beauty"
post.) It's a great lineup so don't miss
Victoria's Duets Night! Bio King and Bio
Queen performers! Gender-bending burlesque,Go-Gos,
DJs, Drag King Shot Boys and Free
Vodka Shots: 1011pm.

Well
I thought Lotus was a fancy joint, which
it is, but now that Mistress Formika and
the crew are in there queering the joint
out it's anything goes! So though I've
said in the past not to expect dildos
and masturbating with potatos at Lotus,
I may very well have changed my tune.
Perhaps you will all get to see the miracle
of Little Edie coming back to life (sans
the stage diving -- see the NYBF for more
on that). Little Brooklyn and Creamy Stevens
bring you this night of burlesque, go-go
dancers, and super festive festivities!

What
do drag queens and clowns (good ones at
least) have in common? They are able to
"pull off" their characters
by creating and sustaining believable
(or unbelievable) stage personae. The
stage persona can be anything from an
extension of self to a fantastic flaming
creature, and finding your inner queen
is an effective way to connect with the
audience and tell a story. Through exercises,
writing, movement, storytelling, and improvisation,
this workshop will provide a framework,
techniques, and the creative space to
begin the process of birthing a flamboyant
stage persona.

Lukki
is thrilled to be returning to one of
her favorite stages in the world, The
Slipper Room, after a much needed winter
hiatus! Every January for the past three
years she jets off to Paris (that's France,
kids) to attend corset-making workshops
with the best of the best, Monsieur Jean
Paul Sartre (no relation), a master of
embelleshment and structure, a seeming
contradiction that is in fact harmonious
and often produces unimaginable results.
Come see the product from that fruitful
journey...

Persona and Charater
Development Workshop
The
Palace of Wonders
1-6, $95
Washington, DC
www.thepalaceofwonders.com
|
|
What
do drag queens and clowns (good ones at least)
have in common? They are able to "pull off"
their characters by creating and sustaining believable
(or unbelievable) stage personae. The stage persona
can be anything from an extension of self to a
fantastic flaming creature and finding your inner
"queen" is an effective way to connect
with the audience and tell a story. Through theatre
and improvisation exercises, writing prompts,
and movement activities, this workshop will provide
a framework, techniques, and the creative space
to begin the process of birthing and developing
a flamboyant stage persona. Some burlesque or
performing experience suggested but not required.
Tickets
available at Brown Paper Tickets: http://www.BrownPaperTickets.com/producer/11233

and sideshow! Enjoy the sideshow artifacts while
you gawk at human oddities and pretty girls (sometimes

don't miss out! Party favors and festivies to

Boo-lesque
with Zombie Ralph is a rampant revue of vamping
vampires, Transylvanian trannies and gorgeous go-go-ghouls,

and then eat
your brains. Accompanied by Drummy Mummy on drums,
(Eric Farber of The Fisherman Tiki Trio) and his
flamboyant, undead side-kick, Flamin-stein, (Stephan
Vara of The Plush Life) Zombie Ralph rolls out a
macabre mob of satanic strippers and batty acrobats:

that's right, 1:30 in the morning. Really not
that shocking, I suppose, but this is not the
Box, people, and it's Friday night and this bridge
and tunnel crowd most definately will have been
out since happy hour. So, I'm going to bring some
sick, messy shit to throw (literally & figuratively)
at the kids. Buyer beware. OH! There's also a
whole other show happening starting at 10:30 pm
but I have no idea who is performing since the
website hasn't been updated in 6 years.
